Stafford County Fire and Rescue (SCFR) responded for a reported commercial building fire just before 1:00 AM on Sunday, August 8th. Units arrived on scene at the Motel 6 less than four minutes after dispatch and found a two-story motel with fire showing from a room on the second floor. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and held it to the room of origin. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Eight rooms were deemed uninhabitable and approximately 17 adult occupants were displaced due to fire and water damage. Those occupants were able to be relocated to other rooms at the motel. SCFR crews were assisted on scene by the City of Fredericksburg and Quantico Fire and Emergency Services, and the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

The Stafford County Fire Marshal's Office determined this fire was accidental in nature and caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.
